There are 2 genres of cloth that are ideal for the cooler months in Toronto but are rarely ever commissioned or even touched on. Flannels and tweeds: full of character, appropriate in a wide-range of contexts, and most of all comfortable.

FLANNELS

Flannel, a soft wool cloth with a nap, should have a place in everyone’s wardrobes. Beloved by both tailors and wearers, flannel makes for the ultimate comfort suit; it feels like wearing a tracksuit, but is wholly suitable for any situation, from business, to casual. There’s nothing you can’t do with flannels. It can be used for serious business suits, or for more casual settings (Franklin’s taken many successful naps in his Fox flannel suit).

We carry a range of flannels, but Fox Brothers is generally the agreed upon inventor of the wool flannel cloth, and their product has more than stood the test of time.

TWEEDS

If you’re looking for something that makes more of a visual statement, then a tweed jacket or suit is the answer. Tweed cloths were originally worn for hunting, specifically woven with a muted palette to camouflage into the surroundings of the British landscape. Now, you can find tweeds in all sorts of colours and patterns. We recommend a more utilitarian cut for tweeds: Slanted pockets for easier access, no dart front for a relaxed fit, and patch pockets with bellows for more storage.

Whether you’re looking to expand your wardrobe, or looking for your first suit, be sure to consider flannel and tweed fabrics. Below is more cozy fall inspiration for your consideration:
